On February 7, 2026, our esteemed pioneer and mentor, Professor David J. Farber, passed away at the age of 91.
Dave’s contributions to the global internet community—through his leadership in CSNET, ISOC, and beyond—have been monumental. Since the early days of JUNET, he provided unwavering understanding, support, and active participation in our activities.
As a cherished member of the WIDE Project, Dave was an integral part of our community long before he made Japan his home. He frequently traveled to Japan to attend our camps and meetings, and he always expressed his profound desire to be part of every discussion within WIDE. His passion and wisdom have left an indelible mark on us all.
Due to the family’s travel schedule, we are sharing the details for the wake and funeral service on short notice:
We invite those who are able to join us in honoring his extraordinary life. I will share my personal memorial tribute following the funeral service on the 13th.
